Congress Approves Measure to Release Epstein Records

The Senate on this Tuesday passed without delay to a measure that will force the release of investigative files associated with the deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, after a overwhelming vote in the House of Representatives and a reversal by the president and his Republican allies. Trump's team relented after months of trying to block the bipartisan effort involving a case that has plagued the president since his comeback to the White House.

Swift Passage in Congress

The Senate acted by general agreement, which needs acceptance from each senator but avoids a recorded vote, expediting the process. Just before, the House passed by a huge margin the bill on a near-unanimous vote.

The public have been patient long enough. Those affected have waited long enough,” Chuck Schumer declared in a address to the chamber on Tuesday, before asking the Senate to approve it without opposition. “Let the truth come out. Let transparency reign.”

Presidential Signature

The measure next heads to the president for his endorsement. Trump indicated on the previous day that he would approve the bill.

Though Trump has for an extended period downplayed the outcry over the official management of the investigation as a “political stunt”, he voiced approval for the measure over the weekend, and stated he would give his assent if it is presented to him.

Reaction

Democrats, along with victims and their advocates who were watching from a viewing area, broke into applause after the bill was enacted. The only opposition came from a GOP representative, who stated he feared the measure would reveal personal information of individuals involved, potential suspects and others caught up in the investigation.
